What is Chinese Moon Cake
Mooncake (Chinese: 月餅 yuèbǐng) is a specialty of Chinese cuisine, available in both savory and sweet fillings. It is traditionally eaten during the Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival , which celebrates the full moon's roundness with family gatherings and moon-watching.
Many mooncakes contain a whole salted duck egg yolk as a symbol of the full moon.
These eggs are preserved in salt for some time until the yolk hardens, and then they are used in the raw state for the mooncake filling.
Mooncakes are not typically made in private households, but are often given as gifts to relatives and friends during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
